At Memorial Hall we are committed to the belief that each student can obtain the all-important Middle/High School diploma.  We address three areas which have caused students to be unsuccessful in their home districts: academics, attendance and behavior.  The success of our program is the result of a careful balance of traditional subjects and alternative instructional methods as well as high expectations and support services.

 Outstanding features of the  program

When they arrive at Memorial Hall, many of our students are several years behind in academic areas.  We provide:

Ø      A diverse staff of educational professionals, prepared to teach academics while acting as mentor, job-coach, disciplinarian, and cheerleader.

Ø      A structured reading program for all students in grades 7-10 (which has allowed students to make 2-3 years growth in a single year).

Ø      Instruction in all core academic subjects (meeting requirements for district issued diploma).

Ø      Preparation for NJ HSPA and provision for the SRA process.

Ø      Electives geared towards successful transition to work or higher education.

Ø      Small class size (generally 12 students or less).

Ø      After-school tutoring – 3 days per week.

Ø      Student portfolios (both electronic and traditional) assessing each student’s academic individual development.

Many entering students have had a history of poor attendance in their home districts.  At Memorial Hall we constantly monitor attendance.

Ø      We strive for a building-wide 95% success rate in our "Be Here & Be On Time" program.

Ø Attendance enhancement program provides support, encouragement and rewards for improved attendance.

Ø      Every absence results in an immediate phone call to parent/guardian.

Ø      District attendance officer monitors absences weekly.

Ø      Monthly attendance reports are sent to district.

Students must develop appropriate behaviors to successfully transition to higher education or the world of work.  To that end, Memorial Hall provides:

Ø      A staff of innovative, supportive educational professionals.

Ø      A structured, incentive based disciplinary system designed to encourage growth in self-discipline.

Ø      Frequent communication with family.

Ø      A Guidance Counselor who maintains ongoing contact with district guidance staff; course selection counseling; career counseling and transition assistance to higher education and/or employment.

Ø      A Social Worker to assist students dealing with educational, social, family crisis, as needed.

Ø      A SAC who provides individual and group counseling, classroom instruction on substance abuse issues, and implements substance abuse polices as needed.

Other Features:

Ø      18-station, server linked, computer laboratory with internet access.

Ø      Full-sized gymnasium with certified gym instructor

Ø      Hot breakfast & lunch program

Ø      Bus transportation – (provided by home district)

Ø      Music program
